From what I’ve seen and read of Hitchens he’s very respectful unless he’s disrespected, then he unleashes his inner Oscar Wilde.

I like him a lot for that reason — he believes in things I don’t (like the myth of Saddam Hussein’s collaboration with Al Qaeda) but he argues his points intelligently, effectively, and without unprovoked recrimination, which is rare and kind of refreshing.

I totally agree. It was often hard to reconcile his valid points with the ones I just didn’t “get” or the ones I thought were totally off the wall. He is without a doubt a vastly experienced and intelligent man, but not someone I would ever want to meet.

He reminds me of that saying “Your enemy’s enemy is your friend.” It’s fun to watch him vitriolically oppose the people and institutions I don’t like, but I can’t say I’m confident that he wouldn’t turn it on people and institutions I do like with the same vehemence.

I to find Hitchens a bit distasteful and confusing, but he has a lot of valid points. I have actually met him at a book signing and i found him quite nasty.

Even if i personally dislike him i cannot help but admire his argumentative skills as well extensive worldwide experience with religion
